No one knows exactly when Arachova ( Arahova ) was built, and trying to trace its origins would take you back to the extreme past.

The historians say that the name is a fact that points to the Slav's as the first people to occupy this region. This is because the Slav word "Arahova" means a "place with walnut trees".

In 1847, the then-Mayor C.Papaioannor tried to change the name of Arachova ( Arahova ) to the ancient name of "Anemoria", with a document that was published in the newspaper "Nea Hellada" ("New Greece"), and another document sent to the head mayor of Livadia.

During the Byzantine years, the French occupation, and after the Catalan's occupation, there is no evidence at all to show that Arachova ( Arahova ) even existed. This, however, doesn't explain the reasons why they started the fire, and there is unfortunately, no other source at all regarding this incident.
